The Po Factor: Ignore it at Your Own Risk

With all the articles out there about the importance of customer relationship management, it’s amazing to me how companies continue to ignore the effect of poor communication.

Note: to see the images associated with this article, visit the author’s blog.

Case in Point

I received a direct mail piece recently from my health club. I’ve been a loyal customer for about 7 years, not because I think it’s the best gym in town, but because it’s somewhat convenient, they have classes I can’t get anywhere else, and I paid a big initiation fee. That’s not to say though that I don’t keep my eye out for an alternative, especially considering all the mail I get enticing me to join other clubs. I could have written to them to complain, but there have been many times my complaints about cleanliness, broken hot tub, or lack of notice about cancellations have fallen on deaf ears. Yet I hang on for the reasons I mentioned. But I digress.

I received this nicely designed 6″x9″ envelope in my mailbox. The teaser read, “inside: a special opportunity for you to pass along the gift of health.” Thinking that I had yet to experience consideration for being such a loyal customer and not reading the teaser as carefully as I should have, I quickly tore into the envelope. The, “…to pass along” should have been the tip-off.

The package included a letter, two “gift certificates” with envelopes and a promo piece.

The letter opens with, “…thank you for being a dedicated member of [deleted company name].” Woo hoo. I’m going to get something for free to thank me for being such a loyal customer. They continue by telling me how I’m experiencing the benefits of better health. Now this is probably due to my commitment to going to the gym every week; not anything they’ve done. And yes, they acknowledge this by saying, “…your hard work is paying off.” Wow, they really care about me.

Then the light begins to dawn, “And now, you have the opportunity to pass along better health to the people you care about.” They probably thought they were being very clever with this transition which takes them into their pitch: “Right now your friends and family can pay the same monthly dues you currently pay and get FREE initiation and pay only a processing fee.*” I’m sure the copywriter was tearing their hair out over this one. Are you as confused as I am? Maybe the difference between an initiation fee and a processing fee makes sense to the people who work at the company, but still sounds like I’m paying for them to set up my account. And why do I need to do that? And as I stated in the beginning, I believe the initiation fee is really designed to keep you from jumping ship.

What’s the Big Deal

The mass-mail nature of the letter required them to say, “…the same monthly dues you currently pay… .” It was either this or personalize the letter with an actual dollar figure, requiring them to use my personal payment data to achieve this feat. Either they couldn’t merge the data or they thought the deal sounded sweeter without a dollar figure. Maybe they thought I had forgotten how much I pay. So I checked my credit card statement, then went to their website to see what kind of deal it really was. Looks like a comparable, regularly-priced membership is about the same price — only .52 less per month. At right, you’ll notice that they’ve removed the initiation fee entirely. It seems like everyone can be a friend or part of my family. I’m not feeling special any more — especially since they squeezed in the, ” processing fee.” And yes, according to the letter’s small print, your friends and family have to pay first and last too.

Gift Certificates

So now you’re supposed to pass along these gift certificates with the nifty envelopes, but lousy offer, to your friends and family. As if I’m going to use them to pretend I’m giving something of value to them. Hey forget buying a gift this year, just give your best friend one of these! The company is basically asking you to do their marketing work for them, with no consideration given to you. I don’t know about you, but I try really hard not to work for nothing.

Who’s the Biggest Loser?

I love the promo piece they included, positioned as a benefit in the P.S. of the letter, “Right now, you and your friends can take the first step towards better achieving your fitness goals. Pass along the enclosed flyer on our Biggest Loser personal training programs.” Did they include any incentive to try their personal training? No. They must have thought that the original deal was just too good. Think again. You’ve already pissed me off; do you think I’m going to be interested in making additional purchases from you? And of course, this piece includes a partner pitch to, “…watch all-new episodes TUESDAYS 8:00/7:00c on NBC.” Bet they cut a good deal with the network for this trade.

What really pisses me off about this whole thing?

Trickery: not only was I duped into opening a piece of junk mail, I was mislead in thinking they were really offering something of value. Talk about poorly managing your customer’s expectations. Doesn’t leave you with a good impression of the company, does it? The cutesy-ness of the gift certificates and matching envelopes really put the nail in that coffin.

No consideration: they asked me to bring them new business (from my personal network no less), and there’s nothing in it for me. Where’s my incentive and thanks, by the way, for being a loyal customer? And what do my friends and family get out of it? The least they could do is send me a free water bottle with their logo on it (heavy sarcasm). Plus, they wasted my valuable time opening, reading and of course ranting about it.

Make new friends, but keep the old: everyone knows it generally costs more to get a new customer than keep an old one — especially when they’re loyal. So treat your best customers very well. One thing I learned when doing tens of thousands of direct mail pieces for a huge corporation was how PO’d our loyal customers got when they heard offers made to potential customers that were better deals than the ones they received. Do corporate execs really think we’re that dumb or are they just not thinking about it?

Environmental impact: what a waste of paper!

Professional Downer: this kind of stuff gives all marketers a really bad rap.

What have we learned?

If you want something from your customers, give something in return, especially if you want to develop long-term, recurring revenue relationships with them. It’s what I call the Give to Get.

Maintain your image as a valuable asset. It can lead to greater loyalty, increased referrals and future sales. Don’t sacrifice it for short-term gain.

Try to quantify the PO Factor whenever you communicate with customers or set policy. If you don’t, its impact will be felt in terms of lost trust, skepticism of future communications, lost add-on sales, and customer churn (in other words, they’ll head for the hills once they get a better offer from your competition).

Jillian Michaels Fitness Program Review

There are so many people who have been completely enthralled with the hit television show The Biggest Loser and its enigmatic and forceful trainer Jillian Michaels, that there is definitely a need to address and review her online fitness and training program for those interested.

A Jillian Michaels review is mandatory for any health and fitness site and not many of these sites offer such a review. Our website wants to be of the few who does review Jillian’s program.

Main Feature of the program:

The Jillian Michaels weight loss and fitness system is a simple to grasp three step program whose goal is to assist dieters with setting up a weight loss and fitness routine. The three main areas of the Jillian Michaels program are eating right, adopting a fitness routine and accepting support through the website. Jillian’s diet/weight loss plan does not zero in on new-age diet drugs or medications that suppress hunger. Its success hinges on the dieter following the tried and true proven means: work and you shall be rewarded.

The Jillian Michaels system addresses dieters by offering a new way of living which can only be achieved through acquiring healthy habits, eating right and exercising regularly. Things that a dieter would want to do anyway if they are serious about a weight loss and fitness program.

Advantages and disadvantages of the program:

Advantages
The program is available through her website which makes it easy to stay with the system.
Dieters do NOT have to take any kind of medication, be it dieting pills, supplements or any health food store’s nutrition packs or anything else for that matter.
Dieters can get no cost advice and a free assessment of their needs through the website which you can access 24/7 of course.

Disadvantages
Now, the Jillian Michaels program may be extremely difficult for some because Jillian prescribes a change in lifestyle. It’s her trademark so to speak.
Dieters who want a hunger suppressant or dietary supplement won’t get it from the program.
Dieters have to do the program on their own…some may love that idea…some may want someone personally participating with them as a “sideline coach”.

As with any lifestyle change having to do with a diet “makeover”, the program just may not be everyone’s cup of tea. A real commitment must be made.

So….a conclusion of sorts:

The Jillian Michaels program is unique in its notion that it employs no diet pills or drugs. While this program does encourage healthy eating habits and regular exercise, some dieters or individuals attempting to lose weight may have difficulty changing their lifestyle as I said before. Since there are a multitude of diet supplements on the market today that a dieter only has to take a capsule with water, the Jillian Michaels weight loss program may not be appealing to some individuals who want a simpler routine.

But…it has proven to work and the decision is all the dieters, whether to dive in and perhaps change their lives forever…and to lead a much healthier lifestyle.

Lose 9 lbs Every 11 Days! ? Fat Loss 4 Idiots Review

Okay, what you don’t need to hear is how one becomes fat and that you need to lose weight because of health reasons, blah, blah, blah.  Instead, I will focus on what Fat Loss 4 Idiots says it will do, how well it delivers, the benefits and my pros and cons of the program.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots claims you can lose 9 pounds in 11 days. That is a big claim…is this possible? As I did, you probably have your doubts, however, with the this diet and exercise program, it is possible.  It does require though, the right program and applying the strategies outlined.  To assist, Fat Loss 4 Idiots comes complete with an extensive handbook that teaches you how to eat and how not to eat, which is an obvious part of any weight loss plan.

A good diet is essential and part of the Fat Loss 4 Idiots program is a meal plan (weight loss plan).  The meal plans is made up of lean proteins, fruits, vegetables and sources of good fat which come from whole foods, such as eggs or cottage cheese.  To help round out your diet, starchy carbohydrates such as oats and pasta are included. The meal plan is divided into four daily meals that should be eaten at a maximum of 2 1/2 hours apart. Unlike oodles of other diets, calorie or carb counting is not part of Fat Loss 4 Idiots and there is no limit on portion size; Fat Loss 4 Idiots says you “just eat short of being full”.

After following the meal plan for 11 days, there is a 3-day ‘cheat’ cycle.  During this time, you can eat whatever you want, then the 11-day meal plan cycle begins again.  The idea is to not allow your body to get comfortable and therefore, will not feel like it is starving during the 11-day session.  This process has been widely advocated.  rather than simply sending you to the grocery store empty handed, the meal plan is created by selecting from a list of preferred foods.

Now, this is not going to be like ‘The Biggest Loser’, where you spend hours a day on a treadmill and though Fat Loss 4 Idiots was developed for mainly sedentary people, they do recommend exercise.  Though they do lay out a low-intense exercise program.  Exercise is important for the success of any weight loss program.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots is one thing only…an inexpensive weight loss program, designed solely for helping people to lose weight.  Don’t take the statement as one of the program being weak; Fat Loss 4 Idiots provides you access to an on-line diet generator, diet workbook and a nutritional guide.  This weight loss program recommends common-sense weight loss principles…brisk walking, plenty of water, etc., and contains only whole food diets (no processed foods, high-sugar foods, or supplements).

Pros: Fat Loss 4 Idiots is a very simple plan for darn near any person.  The ‘cheap’ nature means that you do not have to spend crazy for a weight loss program.  Secondly, the diet plan keeps your metabolism from working against you and allows to easily craft a complex meal plan.  Third, the program is highly popular and would presume then, to be a successful program.

Cons: Fat Loss 4 Idiots is so simply though, it may start to get boring to follow.  There is a lot of repetition in the meal plan which in these busy days, should be okay with most.

Why weight loss programs are essential?

Why weight loss programs are essential?  Can anyone say why it is essential?  Why is it not possible to reduce the weight without weight loss programs?  If you are quite intelligent, you get the answer as soon as you read this sentence.  Is it possible to live without food and water? Is it possible to live in this world without air?  For all these questions the answer is no, similarly without any weight loss programs, it is not possible to reduce your weight unless you put maximum effort. The biggest weight loss program is like a recipe and it contains a list of ingredients and directions. It is an organized list of instruction, when get executed behaves in a good manner. And also, the fitness camps become worthy less if they do not have these three people in their camps.

Majesco publishes a wide range of casual and family oriented video games on Wii™, Nintendo DS™ and other leading systems, and product highlights have included Cooking Mama™, TETRIS® Party Deluxe, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum.

The company’s stated business model, interesting enough for the investors out there who still care about fundamental business operations, are to “focus on games with relatively lower development costs for both console and handheld systems targeting mass market consumers”, although Majesco still reported a ($ .04) loss for the second quarter 2010, reported in June, compared to loss of ($ .18) in the same period a year earlier.

Developed by Super X Studios in collaboration with Greg Hastings himself, Greg Hastings Paintball 2 is rated E10+ and is available now for the suggested retail price of .99. Shares of Majesco are currently trading up $ .03, or about 4.5% at $ .69 a share on light volume.

Get the Inside Scoop to Weight Loss With a Famous Personal Trainer

<!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>

Very few people that embark on losing weight are successful on their first try. There is a lot of information out there and most people find it difficult to sort through everything. There are some sources that say cardio is a great way to burn off calories and fat. There are others that swear by the resistance training philosophy. Since muscle burns a lot more calories than fat, building muscle through resistance training is something that is truly gaining popularity. There are other sources for weight loss that encourage strict eating plans without any exercise at all. Ever so often there are some fad diets that come along. Those are the kind that offer quick results, but aren’t necessarily healthy. Fad diets prey on those that are desperate for quick results but don’t have the ability to work out and carefully monitor what they eat.

Although dieting and exercise are the best way to lose weight in a healthy way, there are some other solutions. Even when using diet and exercise, there are lots of workouts and types of diets you can choose from. Some diets can get more complicated than others. The basic premise to remember when trying to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. If you consider how many calories you consume on a daily basis against how many calories you are burning, and you burn more than you take in, then you will have a loss. Once people realize this, weight loss can be extremely easy if they’re keeping track of their numbers. If you are having trouble losing weight or are in a slump, one great resource you can try is changing up your workout.

The human body can get used to certain things over a period of time, and might not be reacting if you’ve been doing the same workout for an extended period of time. Another resource that can be a great help when it comes to weight loss is using a personal trainer like Jillian Michaels. Jillian Michaels is a personal trainer on the hit reality weight loss show The Biggest Loser. Although she has gained fame as a personal trainer on the Biggest Loser ranch, Jillian Michaels has some great tips that anyone can enjoy.

The reality is that there are millions of people nationwide that are trying to lose weight at a given time. Having a personal trainer like Jillian Michaels might not be feasible for you. But, Jillian has created a great online program that will give you access to her expertise without having to pay for a personal trainer. Personal trainers are surprisingly affordable. Don’t sell yourself short. Having access to a personal trainer locally is probably a lot simpler than you think.

How Dieting Has Created America’s Newest Subculture

Obesity is certainly a rapidly growing health crisis in the United States, and many corporations, media forums, and organizations are dedicated to fighting this nation-wide epidemic. Television shows such as “The Biggest Loser,” “Shaq’s Big Challenge,” and “Fat March” have even turned weight loss into a public competition. Not only is the obese population of America on a mission to shed those pounds, but it seems as though most people, whether they are 5 pounds or 50 pounds overweight, are eager to slim down, tone up, and achieve the body of their dreams. Americans spend over 4 billion dollars a year on diet pills, appetite suppressants, and fat diet plans. Over time, this diet craze has created a new increasingly popular subculture in America: diet culture.

WHY IS DIETING SO POPULAR?

The market is flooded with images of perfectly sculpted bodies, airbrushed figures, and flawless features. From magazine ads to cosmetics packaging, Americans are constantly told by the media that perfection is obtainable. In addition, increasing health threats aided by obesity puts more pressure on Americans to lose weight and avoid these health threats. A combination of these pressures forces people to spend hundreds of dollars on quick-fix diets to lose weight and improve their health as quickly as possible with minimal effort.

DIET PILLS

It seems as though there are hundreds, if not thousands, of diet pills on the market. Every diet pill claims to be the best and claims that you can effortlessly shed the pounds once and for all. Every diet pill works differently, but there are four main types of diet pills on the market: those that suppress appetite with an amphetamine-like effect, a second type of appetite suppressant which triggers your brain to desire to eat less, a third which prevents the absorption of fats into your body, and fourth are detox pills which aid in digestion and food processing. Many diet pills can be extremely unsafe and hazardous to your health, and always require research before purchasing. So how do you know which diet pill to choose? Always look at a full list of ingredients and research any unfamiliar products in the pill. Also, don’t be fooled by ‘all natural’ diet pills – just because the pill is made from all natural products does not necessarily mean it’s completely safe. Always consult a physician before purchasing a new diet pill, and always ask for him or her for recommendations. If the product sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

FAD DIETS

Much like diet pills, fad diets are everywhere. From Atkins to the Grapefruit Diet, fad diets have covered an entire spectrum of weight management. Everyone wants a diet that is easy and doesn’t interfere with their daily lives, but also they want one that works. Too often do people start a fad diet and end up gaining back the weight that they lost, if not more, after stopping the diet plan. So how do you choose the right diet for you? Sometimes, simply watching your calorie intake and increasing your activity can prove effective. If that doesn’t work, look for diets that allow you to eat foods that are nutrient-rich and lean. Diets that make you starve yourself are never a good idea, and most of those diets are the ones that will cause you to gain excess weight back after you stop the diet.

People ask me for advice with a “diet” plan here I will tell you what I think the best plan is………
